Gemini’s Third Annual Fundraiser was a tremendous success!!

Nearly three hundred guests came to support Gemini Health Care Group’s Third Annual Fundraiser at the Sheraton National Hotel in Alexandria, Virginia on Saturday September 25 th, 2010. Our key note speaker, Dr. Mehret Mandefro shared with the audience her inspirational story about her spell at the White House as well as the work she has been doing with her organization TruthAids.

The attendees were treated to the songs of the legendary Ethiopian singer Mahmoud Ahmed. DSC_4733Art works of many talented artists were on display for a successful silent and live auction. Our honored guests were diverse and came as far away as California and New York. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our guests and dedicated volunteers and supporters for their dedication and invaluable contribution.

Your Contribution in Action

Thanks to the support and contribution of our donors and volunteers, our Medical Mission to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia continued in October, 2010. Our Medical Mission partners from Healing the Children, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, took a health care team to perform service and education at Black Lion Hospital, Cure International hospital, and Mekanissa School for the Deaf. The ten member health care team included specialists in Pediatric ENT, Pediatric Anesthesia, and audiology. In addition, donated medical equipment and medical supplies were shipped to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, including educational equipments and supplies to be used at the Play/Educational room in the pediatric ward at Black Lion hospital .

OTHER NEWS

Our educational and medical mission to Ethiopia continues in March, 2011. Starting March 18th, eighteen health care professionals will be in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to provide teaching and service. The pediatric subspecialists in the areas of pediatric ENT, Ophthalmology, Audiology, Anesthesia, and Urology will be providing service and teaching at Black Lion Hospital, Cure Hospital and Mekanissa School for the Deaf. This portion of the medical mission is being organized in collaboration with Healing the Children, Greater Philadelphia Chapter.

The second part of the medical mission includes a one-week educational mission to pediatric residents and medical students at the Black Lion Hospital as well as to the community pediatricians. We have recruited four pediatric specialists in the areas of pediatric Pulmonology, Endocrinology, Neurology and Emergency medicine to be participants at the First Annual Pediatrics by the Nile continuing medical education conference to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The conference, which is being co-sponsored by the Ethiopian Pediatric Society, is scheduled to take place on Thursday March 31, 2011 and Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Addis Ababa Hilton.
